Two arrested Canadians remain in police custody
Two Canadian women arrested by the West Nusa Tenggara police for using and owning 3.6 grams of marijuana remain in police custody since February, Antara news reported Wednesday.
"It's an order from the top, as long as the case is being processed, the two Canadians remain in custody. Since their case is being handled by the Lombok police station, that's where they are being held," West Nusa Tenggara regional police spokesman Tribudi Pangestuti said.
Teachers and Central Lombok 'homestay' organizers Kathleen Ann Elisabeth, 31, and Christa Mary, 30, were arrested at their residence as they were lighting up a joint in Kuta, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.
According to Pangestuti, within the last three months the police have uncovered 25 drug-related cases with over 30 suspects.
Most of the arrests made, he added, were marijuana cases with over 1.562,2 grams of the herb confiscated as proof. Eight suspects have been arrested so far, including the two Canadians.
"The drug arrests we've made so far mostly occur in Mataram," Pangestuti said.
