The Banda Aceh city administration has forbidden its citizens from celebrating the New Year’s Eve through having a party, saying that it was not part of the Islamic culture.

The city administration forbids all forms of New Year celebration including blowing horns or trumpets to mark the start of the new year.

“Blowing trumpets is not Islamic, it is not the custom of Muslims ... It is better to start a year by having a prayer,” said Banda Aceh deputy mayor Illiza Saaduddin Djamal as quoted by tempointeraktif.com on Wednesday.

Djamal said that his administration was developing Aceh by Islamic rules and that he hoped the city would be appealing to Muslim tourists.

Bad luck and tough shit. What's appealing to Muslim/Arab tourists happens to be alcohol and hookers. Bye, bye, tourists.

I just met 2 people in Bandung who have been working in Aceh recently: 1 as an aid-worker (Indonesian) and 1 (Eurasian) was working for a foreign oil-company. What they told me about the awful ingratitude of the Acehnese.......
Houses which are send from Scandinavia (perfect quality wood) weren't accepted by the local population cause to their opinion the wood was from an inferior quality. Now 3 of these houses are sold to ex-pats in Bali who love to live in these high-quality and spaceful houses.
Boats who were send to Aceh to help the Acehnese fishermen were refused by them because they were not big enough. Also sold by the Acehnese on the black market.
In Bantul-Yogyakarta is a hugh and eminent mosque build (in the middle of nowhere).....with financial aid from the people of Aceh. Where's this money coming from when they're still asking for help??!!
