Indonesia executes two Nigerian drug smugglers

The shots that rang out across an isolated Indonesian island today were a chilling warning for three Australians on death row. Police marched two Nigerian men into Nirbaya forest on an island off Central Java, handcuffed them to two poles and opened fire. Their crime was to smuggle heroin into a country with some of the toughest drug laws in the world.

If they were European citizens half the world was on it's back legs.
But since they are Nigerian there is hardly a protest.

One can have serious objections against the death sentence.
More when one has a closer look and finds most of these unfortunate people have been forced into smuggling.

On the other hand, a governement can't send a clearer message.
And maybe a closer look from the governement towards the Nigerian Embassy couldn't hurt either.

It's only kinky the first time.

The death penalty is always barbaric im my opinion, no matter it is executed in Indonesia or the US.

Indonesia has much bigger problems than drugs. Another reflex of the Indon gouvernment to direct attention away from the real problems like poverty, extremism, corruption and the environment.

there were riots in that prison because of this execution actually, those two guys had the right to a second appeal but they went ahead and murdered them anyways, angering a whole lot of prisoners there. meanwhile big corruptors that steal millions of dollars are let off with a slap on the wrist.... go figure.....
