Hey
I'll soon be travelling to Jawa, Bali & Lombok.
Unfortunately I have a severe seafood allergy. If I eat any kind of seafood, anything cooked in the same oil or frypan, or prepared using the same knives or cutting board, I choke to death. Only trace amounts are needed.
I do carry adrenaline to stop the reaction, but would like to avoid that scenario as I'd still require hospitalisation, and won't be near hospitals a lot of the time. I speak some bahasa, but not well enough to fluently explain my situation to everyone who I meet. I will cook most of my own food but can't expect to rely solely on this (can't afford expensive hotels and restaraunts).
My first question is, are there meals which don't typically contain some seafood derivate sauce or paste such as terasi, belacan, petis etc? My second question is if anyone is willing to help out with a card I'll be carrying, which I'm trying to get written in bahasa, jawa, bali and sasak?
Here's my attempt in bahasa (the english is there for what i'm trying to say)

Salam. Saya ada kepadakaan ledak segala hal makanan hasil laut.
Saya tidak dapat makan:
- any kind of seafood
segala hal makanan hasil laut mencakup ikan, sotong, udang dll
- any food cooked with seafood
makanan lain dimasak dengan makanan hasil laut, mencakup udang dan empeyek dll
- any frypan which has previously had seafood cooked on it, unless washed since
wajan yang sebelumnya digunakan memasak hasil laut mencakup, kecuali kalau mencuci bersih
- food prepared using the same knives or cutting board
makanan yang siap-siap dengan bersama parang dan endasan halnya makanan hasil laut
- any paste or sauce with fish, oyster, shrimp etc
petis, terasi, belacan atau saus lain yang terisi segall hal hasil laut makanan
Kalau saya bereaksi terhadap makanan hasil laut saya sangat memerlukan rumah sakit dan perlu adrenalin (berkenaan dengan ginjal) selain itu saya akan sesak papas / kerongkonganku saya (closes) dan saya berpulang.

Can't you just get ontopic? There is no question from the opener of this topic for more information about seafood allergies, but about a translation to Indonesian and other languages...
how irritating this kind of useless replies all the time.

it's a bit difficult to insist on an area completely free of any shrimp paste.
Of course plenty of foods are cooked without it, but to insist it not have even been in contact with the knife is a difficult ask.
Pretty much all vegetable dishes are cooked with either ikan teri (tiny dried fish) or fish paste. Any sambal is quite likely to contain shrimp paste, but you can ask, so even something like a boiled egg (usually served in sambal) may be tainted. Indonesians really love shrimp paste. If you are eating meat curry (rendang, etc.), it should not contain any shrimp paste. Also probably not soto. But you can really not be sure. Pretty much all food can contain some fish/shrimp derivative. If I were going for anything, I would go for BBQ'd food, I have NEVER seen any bumbu for pork/chicken that would contain belacan/terasi.

I'm sorry to say but I think it will be very dangerous to travel to Indonesia with your condition.
Even you will get the perfect translation (also be aware that even different villages have different slang) many people are not well educated and there is a chance they will not take it as seriously as you explain.
Good chance that if they them selves never heard of the existence of a food allergy they may think; ah, its not possible its THAT bad, and will just use a knife to cut your meat where they just cut some fish with before.

I think the only way to be sure is to cook yourself, rent rooms with a little kitchen (they are there for rent and not that expensive) and buy your own food. also be aware that on prepared cooked meals in supermarkets the rules what ingredients are in the food you buy are not as strict as in Holland for example.
Buying plain meat, vegetables, herbs, etc would be the safest way for you.

Cheers for the replies.
I agree it is fairly dangerous and don't presume that people will be aware of it or take it seriously. People here don't and I'd imagine even somewhere as regulation-bound as Japan would be a problem simply because it sounds so bizzare. It still will help to have a card if there's no choice but to eat somewhere.
Maybe i can survive on just nuts, biscuits, eggs and self-cooked food.
How common are supermarket type stores or butchers over there?

I only know about west Java but here there are lots of big supermarkets with butchers inside,
Carrefour, Hero, Alfamart,
almost every mall has one of them.
