There are many acronyms and abbreviations in the Indonesian language. Some are obvious, some are more obscure. Are you looking for one, or do you know one? Please share it with us. Translations can be found and we can grow a list together.
I will keep them ordered in this topic for you. Before you post one here, you will probably know if it isn't already in the online dictionary
I will start the list with one I just answerred a few minutes ago.

Working at two o' clock in the night? Horrendous. No wonder that noone can wine, dine and [censor] you.
I did not know the abbrevation CITOS, although I am a regularly visitor there. Interesting!
Kinanti can you give also the english explanation for the terms
Calon = candidate?

Mohon Ma'af, Ibu Kinanti, but I had the impression that your subline in your postings was a form of outcry instead of an affirmation, as i am now informed.

Pinta,
So you are younger then 18?
As most girls are Ibu when they are 18.
|
|
|
|
|
most girls where?
and the contextual meanings of ibu are varied.
in my case, l dont want people to call me ibu because l am not an ibu yet, in the context that l havent had any children yet.
age is not neccesarily defined.
(yerun, have you got my letter?)

Hi Jeroen,
How about « secondary meanings » ? You know, many Indonesian shortcuts have also an other than official sense. Often, these are more popular than the original. The best known is KKN (Student’s mandatory country-side work stage) which also signifies « Korupsi, kolusi, Nepotism ».

How about UUD - Undang Undang Dasar but it is more populer as Ujung Ujungnya Duit....

Sekarang jaman sedang jaman singkat.. kaaat..
dijalan motor mobil adu cepat... paaat
That's all I can remember..I am sure Bang Win will add some more...

Frankly, I do not understand the joke above. Can you give me a different joke?
Oh btw, why do you need to apologize? if you think that joke could offend someone or female readers..what did you submit it anyway? I thought a Joke was supposed to be funny and not an insult... >:*

And can somebody explain to me the abbrevation:
G30s and why the combination with PKI in: G30s/PKI? It seems also still difficult to publish this abbrevation without adding /PKI? Why?
