The Jakarta administration has allocated more than Rp 2 billion (about US$219 million) for the installment ceremony and other facilities for the governor-elect, Fauzi Bowo, and deputy governor Prijanto, a councillor says.

Now the prices;
The installment ceremony alone -- scheduled for Sunday -- would require around Rp 200 million, Priya said.

"The new governor wants to use his current official car; he doesn't want us to buy him a new one, so we will only set aside around Rp 600 million to buy a Toyota Camry for the new deputy governor," he said.

"We proposed a budget of around Rp 600 million for the photographs, and we'll choose the service through a tender process."

He said the governor and deputy governor were each entitled to receive a car and a jeep, but because the new governor already had two vehicles, the council would only budget for the purchase of vehicles for the deputy governor.
An other 600 million maybe?

He said the council had sent around 1,000 invitations to legislators, members of political parties, Ambassadors, city executives and other VIPs.

How many people can eat from this a life time?

If you ask me even Balkenende (Minister president in Holland) did not cost that much?
The really never learn in this country.

When are the people going to prtest about this?
Is Fauzi a good guy or like the rest??
If he was such a good guy, all would have costed 219 juta and not $219 million.

Bowo is not a good guy, but the other option was islamist, so people scrambled to vote for the least bad option.

Furthermore I do understand why there is no protest, because you have to use a proper calculator.

600+600+600+200 million Rupiah = 2.000 million Rupiah, that is 2 billion Rupiah devided by 9150 (the current exchange rate) you get 218.579 USD or about 155.642 euro.

That's better indeed Emoticon: Wink

When I saw Bowo in his tv-duel with the other candidate Bowo acted like Melkert (which has fled the Netherlands for the US after he lost the elections); at that time I preferred the other candidate, not knowing that this was an islamist almost ready to instal shariah in DKI Jakarta. So the people of Jakarta didn't really have a good choice if you ask me.

Its a waste that such an amount is used for this ceremony, further more the Central Government goes around the world looking for loans to finance this project and that project, towards the end, back to square one, the country is in debt again.

I don't think it's too much of money. We are talking about less than 175.000 euro for the entire ceremony including a few cars.
