I am trying to find out details of the death of my great great great uncle James Motley who was killed by insurgents in May 1859 in Bangkal near Banjarmasin - and what may have happened to his wife and family.

I have a number of letters written by James from Banjarmasin where he was involved in Coal mining. He had formerly been involved with the Eastern Archipelago Company in Labuan and arrived in Banjarmasin in 1856. He was also a noted naturalist and his herbarium is now at Kew in London. Several plants and animals are named after him.

Any help would be gratefully received.
