JAKARTA (AP): Indonesian Muslims reacted angrily Friday to a purported plan by Playboy to launch a local version of its magazine in the world's most populous Muslim nation.

= edit: dead link =

This is sooooooooooo annoying, those hardline idiots are watching extreme hardporn and violent movies in their pesantren the whole day and now they pretend to be "the wise men of the nation". Just allow this magazine, hopefully Indonesian men can finally start to think a little bit more grown-up about seeing a naked female body, not having the association of extremely violent sex as pictured in those blue movies!

No surprise, all over the world, sex & Islam is not a good combination.

-A soon as a kid becomes an adult they hurry to bring a knife to cut the genitals.
-Polygamy, which is usually a crime, is accepted in the Muslim world.
-When the hardliners see e.g. only the lower part of the leg of a woman, she already needs serious punishment.

I think the problem comes from the fact that man and woman live more or less separately in the Muslim world. In the past this was no so much the case in Indonesia, but with increasing segregation the problem will increase.

Once I was in Egypt for 3 weeks... Every conversation with an Egyptian man came within 5 minutes to the subject "sex with European woman". Obviously they were all dreaming about doing something with, in their view, naughty European woman. By the way, in Cairo they had (have?) a large red light district for all the tourists coming from the Arabian Peninsula. Really pathetic!

I’ve never been able to understand them. Man must live with man and woman with woman, but please don’t say they’re gay…

And why do woman have to use a scarf or even live in a tent? Isn’t the basis for this the fact that (some) men in Muslim society are a little bit too horny and cannot stop themselves?

As a matter of fact, it would make sense to conclude that a woman that voluntary uses a tent to protect herself from horny man in fact accuses man from being too horny.

What surprises me most is that religious people are angry about things that others do, while all religions only demand things from the believer.

What I mean is for any religious person it is no problem when other people do something wrong according to their religion.

But, it's everywhere the same, I always hear: because I am a believer of ...... you cannot/may not.....

Somewhere else on this forum we have the rules for a good Muslim. Well it doesn't contain the sentence: you should stop other people when they .......whatever.

So, what's the fuss? Emoticon: Confused

Thats real small minded, let them first get rid of from their own pornsites.
Comparing playboy magazine and Indonesian porn site is just a farce.
Indonesian nowadays is the biggest porn Muslim country in the world.
Sex and prostitution is everywhere, you dont need a religion to blame the outside world to pretend.................

I think it is a 'creatif solution'; after 'Islamatic Cola'.
Like they say: 'If you can't beat them, join them ...... '
But it all depend on 'the ordinary man in the street ..... '

update:
----------------------------
JAKARTA (Reuters): An Indonesian publisher vowed on Friday to go ahead with the launch of a local version of Playboy magazine despite growing protests from Muslim groups and politicians.

Since news of the planned launch broke a few weeks ago, some Islamic groups have urged the government to prevent publication of the men's magazine in the world's most populous Muslim nation, even if it was less racy than the American original.

"There was a thought to issue Playboy Indonesia mid-year but with this controversy that plan may be expedited or pushed back," said Ponti Carrolus, director of PT Velvet Silver Media, which holds the Indonesian licence from the U.S.-basedmagazine.

Ponti told a news conference that Playboy Indonesia would not publish nude pictures, the magazine's trademark.

Avianto Nugroho, who handles the magazine's promotion, told Reuters separately the launch was a "certainty", but gave no date.

Media observers said Playboy Indonesia's content would be close to local franchises of men's magazines such as FHM or Maxim, which rely heavily on pictures of scantily dressed women but stop short of nudes.

Despite regular campaigns against pornography, many sidewalk vendors in Indonesia stock sexually explicit movies.

In recent years, lifestyle magazines for Indonesia's growing secular middle class have flooded the market, including those targeting a male audience.

Many are franchises of foreign publications in the United States, Europe, Australia and more liberal Asian nations.

Founded in 1953, Playboy has about 20 local editions around the world that cater to local taste rather than simply exporting and translating its U.S. content. (**

Indonesia to get its own Playboy

A toned-down edition of Playboy will go on sale Friday in mostly Muslim Indonesia, defying protests from Islamic leaders who have called on the government to ban the magazine, publishers said. The magazine does not feature nude women, and its photos of female models are no more risque than those in other magazines already for sale in the country, according to an Associated Press photographer who saw an advance copy.

First edition of Playboy Indonesia hits newsstand

U.S. adult magazine Playboy published its first Indonesian version Friday but it appears that local readers were not as enthusiastic to the down-toned version as predicted earlier. The magazine is sold at 39,000 rupiah (4.3 U.S. dollars), more expensive than any other local men's magazines in Jakarta newsstands, featuring local girl Andhara Early on its cover.
