I have a question. An American friend of me asked me to join me in Indonesia, but are Americans really welcome there or are people not so nice to Americans? The girl has a really American accent and likes to wear shirts with the stars and stripes and president Bush (which I already said to her she would probably better take some other clothes if she comes)

Please advice in this!

I saw Americans can buy an Canadian package with sticker, shirt and bag... heheh.. but just leave the stars and stripes home, it's probably the best for your health Emoticon: Wink

It is better to advice your friend to respect local culture and she is better not too bragging about "American Superpower" because nobody is care. Ooops another one... try to avoid political discussion.

omg does she wear shirts with bush? phhhhhheew
how silly....sorry but that's my opinion
everyone is welcome as long you don't provocate, wearing a bush shirt is provocative in my opinion, not just in indonesia haha...
actually I'm curious how someone can wear stars and stripes...
everyone can wear what they want but why a bush shirt haha?

Maybe Bush Jr. at the front and Bush Sr. at the back of her shirt?

And underwear with stars and strips.

It is always better then to paint Bin Laden and Sadam on your car.

She is big fan of the American preseident and likes to show that to everybody, therefore the shirts. In Cafés she also starts big political discussions and takes small American flags with her to give to people on the street. (she works in the AMerikican militairy)

My advise to her, if you can 't stay quiet don't go to Indonesia.

she wants to convince people that the USA is doing the right thing in the world. and she said that "especially in Indonesia" a lot of work has to be done.

Just stay home I would say... it's called provocative and not only in Indonesia, but people in Indonesia just might not appreciate it.

I start to think if you might not be serious with what you're writing.
and maybe even that "your gf" is a way for you to talk indirectly..
there's no right thing what they (from usa) are doing 'in the world'!!
what do you/she mean with: lot of work has to be done?????
please stay home in texas with your bush support.
why you ask such stupid questions? if you use your brains you can figure out the answer yourself..you're probably from overseas too..
sorry but you've just hit a sensitive thing...

why she doesn't buy a bin laden tshirt and walk around times square?
then she will notice what will happen when she wears a bush shirt in indonesia.

She's a narrow minded hill-billy and cannot be convinced. Let her dress and behave like she wants. She will have a new experience Emoticon: Angry

Or HE if you read Sayang's comment.

I forgot to pay attention to how he calls himself.
Who will take a person with such a name serious?

It is quite evident that this guy is a provocator. But he got exactly the answers he wanted. Would I be safe in Indonesia wearing a J.P. Balkenende t-shirt? So much for freedom of expression. I am quite sure there were and are a number of people in the USA wearing Jihad or Osama t-shirts, just to see the reaction. As I said somewhere earlier; God bless the USA for existing or otherwise it should be invented because a lot of people seem to be very happy to be able to make finally a moral stand, after world war II.

What a pitty, Indonesia will not become pro-Bush and will stay pro-Bin-Laden.

Although, because of Aceh, they now think more positive about the Usa then before the Tsunamy.

Most ordinary Indonesians respect visitors and are very hospitable. The elite (politicians, business and the military) are divided on the subject of Americans. Generals like Prabowo and SBY are thought to be in with the Americans. But some of the elite would rather be more neutral. If you have Saddam on your T-shirt, you should remember that Saddam was a CIA asset.

Bin Laden, who died in December 2001, was also a CIA asset. http://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/RIC111B.html
