33 foreigners suffer from HIV/AIDS in Bali

A total of 33 foreigners who once visited or stayed in the Indonesian tourist resort province of Bali suffered from HIV/AIDS, a local AIDS Commission (KPA) said here on Wednesday. Dr Mangku Karmaya, prevention working group coordinator of Bali`s KPA, said the data were collected from 1987 to 2013.

What is the significance of this data and how was it collected?

I doubt that there are many permanent residents of Bali or elsewhere in Indonesia who would be in that group considering the social stigma attached to anyone with the disease living in Indonesia.

Am pretty sure that incidence of HIV/AIDS is far higher than that can be extrapolated from the figures provided in the above study, due to this stigma. The fact that many tourists to Bali engage in high risk behavior makes me think that this affliction is still on the increase not decrease as in Western countries.
