Dear friends,
Thank you to all of you for thinking of us. I partner
with IQRA KIDS ("Yayasan Iqra Indonesia" Emoticon: Wink
, an NGO focused on
reading programs for Aceh children. I'm one of their
paypal donors. I have their confirmation that they
will dedicate all donation they receive after today to
the tsunami survivors. As you can see below we have
their contacts both in Ithaca, NY and in Banda Aceh,
the devastated city on the tip of Sumatra island.

These people are my local contacts; they have been
working for Acehnese long-term, and I believe they
will stay there since Aceh is their home. Their link
is on our Voice of Jakarta homepage
http://www.voiceofjakarta.com

If you wish to make a tax-deductible donation, you
could send it over to friends at the Indonesian mosque
in Queens, NY - "Indonesian Muslim Community Inc."
(check to be made payable to that) Masjid Al-Hikmah,
48 01 31st Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11103 - Tax
Exempt ID # 11-3188256 - visit http://www.voiceofjakarta.com
for their paypal button.

I'm sure the Acehnese in disaster areas can still use
our help beyond surviving this catastrophy - their
living space is totally decimated.
Banda Aceh, the province's best hope for modernization
- gone. My sister, lucky to escape this (she flew out
of Banda Aceh on Christmas), has her NGO staff on
location - it's reported that basic things like food
and shelter is scarce - incoming traffic (bringing in
aid and volunteers) is hampered by debris and corpses.

I know worldwide help is on the way -
but rebuilding their community is impossible without
your help. Historically, the Acehnese have suffered
more than we can ever imagine. This disaster to
them is both the most horrible ordeal, and at the same
time an opportunity to rebuild their life, a much
better one hopefully - it's also our chance to have a
role in that.

wishing you a peaceful new year,
