What a horrible way to punish a young girl! To deny education to any child is denying a basic right. Sad, very sad.

This is completely normal in nowadays Indonesia under the influence of conservative and narrow-minded Muslims.

I think your reaction is narrow-minded and prejudist too Y-B.
Where is stated this is a muslim-school ???
I myself heard rumours that this happened on a catholic school.

For your info in holland there are same things happening, but then they say
they do all because of the wellfare of the teenage-mum and child.
But that's also hypocretic.

In any case, it is much too easy too blame Muslims for all what happens all-over
Indonesia. It would be nice to see if these kind of narrow-minded reactions;
one-sentence- blame-the-muslim-blabla, would disappear.
It's already enough that we have a narrow-minded guy like Geert Wilders on
this world, the world would be much better if there aren't too many copy-cats.

Welcome to Indonesia Take it as it is or leave it if you don't like it

The whole situation of intolerance is coming from the direction of the hardliners among the muslim-community and influences the other religions (christians, Catholics, hindus) as a contra-reaction. For me the whole bunch of these 4 awful retarded religions are out of date and out of time. But the nowadays situation is caused by the attitude of conservative moslims; easy, they are the majority. Take a look in the Moluccas: disgusting from both sides.

You're right. But it is a fact that because of the growing intolerance (definitely caused by the hardline muslims) rules and behaviour are going back to the dark middle-ages. Take a look at all the regional by-laws which are mostly based on a conservative interpretation of religion. Even in Bantul where girls on a government school are forced to wear a long skirt, long sleeves and a jilbab . And this is not concerning a muslim school! When you protest against it then it turns back on your child who becomes the victim of revenge by the teacher and the principal (my own experience).
The children of a friend of mine in Bima have to wear islamic clothes (I mean the above mentioned long sleeves and jilbab ) although they are christians. If they don't, well forget it that their results will be treated fairly.
Nowadays religious freedom is hard to find. From both sides (as a contra-reaction).
